I will officially include Afro Punk 2012 as the second greatest music festival experience thus far.
The vibes, the beautiful people, the music, the food completed the other black experience
The first day we had the chance t be in the presence of the holy Erykah Badu, wh might I add was sporting a Melody Ehsani bracelet. She sang her heart out belting tunes “Danger”,”Love of My Life” as well as “Bag Lady.
Of course during her ode to hip hop she brought out Yasiin Bey formerly known as Mos Def.
The next day we enjoyed the tunes from Phony Ppl, Brooklyn Zombies and Janelle Monae, who was introduced by none other than Skateboard Pete.
I have always been a fan of Janelle Monae but her riveting and electrifying performance took my appreciation for her to another level. I will definitely be paying to see her next time she is on the east coast!
If you missed Afro-Punk this year you missed out on the amazing other black experience. No matter where you are be sure to catch it next year….the lineups are only getting better and better!
