The end of 2015 is steadily approaching and that get’s people antsy and in the mood for change and new things to come into existence for the next year. But before you do something crazy like quit your job here are some steps to ensure you are making a responsible decision.
A few weeks ago I decided that I was not getting much work done in my career because I was working too many hours and I was getting caught up in the drama of my job. I truly needed to time to realign, get clear on the direction of my life and cleanse. I decided to quit. But before quitting i knew that I needed to create a plan. I live on my own and paying bills now so leaving without any other income coming in was not going to happen LOL.
Here are the steps I took:
1.Plan How Long You Will Not Be Working:
By choosing a set amount of time you are able to plan your new freedom. This keeps you on a timeline and gives you clarity on how long your temporary “freedom” will last.
2. Budget Your Money:
Now that you know how long you will be taking time off. You can budget your money by saving and getting the bills you will need to pay in line. You quit your job to do what you want and worrying about paying bills is NOT what you want to do. Sometimes you run into unexpected things like me (needing to pay $500 for a root canal). Sometimes push comes to shove and you might need to borrow money or take money out of your savings.
3. Plan Your New Free Time:
Make a list of all of the things you want to do that you were not able to do before while you were working or things you always wanted to do. I was able to go to the beach more, more museums, more sleep! Plan your time so that you don’t waste it.
